Sunday was a day of two walks, and a day of about 15 seasons, as is often the case here in Wales.
I spent the morning at Margam Country Park, and although it’s beautiful, I didn’t take too many pictures as I was with friends. I know it’s a shock to discover that I have one, let alone plural. I’ve decided therefore that I’ll go back another day when I can concentrate on getting some pictures, rather than socialising, heaven forfend.
Just as we were coming to the end of that walk, having been around the park in lovely sunshine, it started to snow. Actual, proper snow flurries. Not something we’re overly used to seeing here so close to the coast, and certainly not in April.
But I was so close to Aberavon Beach that I thought I’d stick it out and see if things improved. I also had the sneaking suspicion that dramatic clouds could be in abundance with freak weather events also happening. I gave it a couple of minutes to see if the snow would subside and headed off towards the beach.
I only found out about this beach last year, where I was surprised to discover how brilliant it is. I must admit, it’s proximity to Port Talbot didn’t put it high on my list of exciting places to visit. Sorry anyone from there. But, Aberavon boasts three miles of flat sand, with a lovely view of the Swansea coast on one side, and the steelworks on the other. Some people probably wouldn’t enjoy the latter, but I like the contrast of nature and industry. Maybe I’m just a bit weird. Probably no maybe about it.
At one end of the beach it also has these giant concrete “things” – to use the technical term for them. I really don’t know what they are, so if anybody wants to comment to let me know, I’d very much appreciate it. They’re so huge they make the dog look small – of course she normally looks enormous.
I was indeed rewarded with the clouds I’d been craving. I’d decided not to take a big camera down on to the beach so I could be free and unencumbered. So for these I used the LX100 II again – I think it did a pretty excellent job though and I’m very pleased with the results.
Give me a dark, stormy, moody day over a cloud-free sky any day, I say. Just so long as it doesn’t actually rain on me.
